The luxury car maker, Porsche, has jumped on the hybrid bandwagon and added a new lineup sports cars and SUV. These include the 911 GT2, as well as the Cayenne GTS and Cayenne Hybrid.
The latest variable of the 911, the GT2, is the ultimate motorsports car for the street. The bi-turbo six-cylinder engine mounted at the rear pumps out 530 horsepower (390 kW) with 501 lb-ft (680 NM) of torque available as early as 2200 rpm.
Combining that massive power with a low curb weight, just 3,175 lbs (1,443 kg) and a low drag coefficient , the 911 GT2 can reach 62 mph in a mere 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 204 mph. These impressive statistics make the new GT2 the fastest and most powerful 911 ever to go into production. In fact, the GT2 now holds the record for a street registered luxury vehicle with the fastest time, even running faster than the Carrera GT.
Now here comes the good part, the fuel economy story — Porsche claims the GT2 consumes just 12.5 liters/100 km (approximately 22.6 mpg) of fuel. Of course, that would mean keeping your foot off the floor, which may be difficult in a car like this.
Since the GT2 is a top of the line 911, it comes standard with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), titanium exhaust system, sport bucket seats and a new 3-stage version of the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system. The PSM in the GT2 allows the driver to leave the system controlling everything, or can turn off this control, while leaving on traction control. If desired, the entire system can be shut off completely, at which time the driver will no longer receive assistance and will be left with only his abilities to keep the vehicle on the road.
Darren, from an exotic luxury car rental in Miami, Florida went for a ride in the new GT2. He raved about the car, citing "acceleration as incredibly strong and complemented by an impressive set of brakes". He also maneuvered quickly from side to side to test the handling and his reaction was "it was the most incredible thing, there was no lean to the car, no tire noise, really no drama at all. The car just goes where you point it with no surprises or back talk". The most surprising and most common reaction from people that tested this car was how smooth the ride was. They all concurred that this is a car you could drive comfortably all day.
Cayenne GTS and Hybrid
Porsche will also be introducing the Cayenne GTS, their answer to requests from customers to create a sportier version of the Cayenne. The GTS features the same front and rear body style as the Cayenne Turbo, only with wider fender flares, a lower ride height and 21-inch wheels. The inside is a bit more upgraded, with finer materials and new sport seats.
GTS will have V8 power with 405 horsepower (298 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 NM) of torque, and will debut between the S and the Turbo in the Cayenne lineup when it goes on sale later this year.
By the end of this decade, Porsche says they will unveil a hybrid version of the Cayenne as well. It will contain the first ever parallel hybrid system. This luxury hybrid vehicle will boast an electric motor to pair with the 3.6-liter V6. The most important feature of this parallel system is that fuel savings can be achieved in both city and highway driving. Though total power output has not yet been released, expected fuel economy will be improved to 8.9 liters/100 km (26.4 mpg).
Environmentally aware customers every where who enjoy luxury exotic cars should truly anticipate the arrival of these exceptional vehicles.
